Busy Nothings is 1 Year Old!
I was supposed to have blogged about this on March 11th, but I was so busy doing lots of fun stuff that I just didn't have time to even sit at a computer -- I didn't even check my e-mail, people! (That's saying a lot!) So.
I have been a-bloggin' for a year. 1 whole year! This is, in fact, the 219th post! Maybe nobody cares but me. I just feel so proud of myself because a lot of people start blogs, but they don't keep them going. (And then you try to take the chocolate.blogspot name and find that it's already taken, and the person who has that blog hasn't posted in over a year . . .)
Anyway, I just wanted to thank all of you who read my blog. I love blogging. Love it. Mostly because I like writing and typing, and the fact that other people seem to like my writing and typing is incredible to me. It makes me feel . . . great. So thanks. I really appreciate your comments, too. They make my day fun!
Because it's my year-mark and because I have been kind of disappointed in my posts lately (They're just not as funny as they used to be.), I've decided to do a little recap. I took a cue from Blake and chose to list what I think are some of the best posts I've written. Maybe you think it's conceited, and maybe you think it's just filler. But I just want to remind you that I can be a decent writer at times. Also, I'm putting some of the most popular posts up here; I think it's interesting to see which posts have gotten the most comments.

Congrats, Sara! I hit my year mark next month (April 6) and a large part of my starting a blog was on your account. I had read about them one year earlier and had already started reading a few, but when you started writing, I really decided, "I need to do this."
I hope to be a writer someday, so if I ever become one, know that you had a large part in my motivation.
Sweet! A best of list for those of us that came in late. I'm disappointed that I missed "It's my life" when it was hot.
Anyway, since I'm between sessions at SXSW, I'm obligated to mention that these best of lists are a great help to new users (go usability conscious you), and that as was discussed in the session I just got out of... blogs will change the world...
As an example, there were some great comments by Heather Armstrong about how stay-at-home moms are using blogs to recreate the kind of community and connection that they feel that they lost when they started staying home with their children. (Like when geographic limitations keep you from meeting with other parents you know.) Looking at the women I know that stay at home and have small children, moms are making amazing use of email, increasing use of blogs to keep in touch, share experiences, and provide support to one another.
That's a great thing in itself, but when it comes to commerce, such women are becoming incredibly powerful. (The hand that rocks the cradle also tends to be the hand that makes the most important purchases for a family.) Before I buy a new x... I'm gonna see what Donna, Sharon, Cynthia and Sara without an "h" have to say about it. (Same thing potentially going for things like concerts, venues, recorded music, games, music, clothes, pretty much anything else.)
So to try and make that session vomiting relevant to all of us that aren't stay at home cybermoms...
No matter how small your blog community, chances are that what you're writing matters to someone. It may only be family and friends, and may never go beyond that. But having another method to keep up with them is still very valuable... and you never know what benefit you can bring to a friend-of-a-friend or even a random someone that's just lurking. Whether through a post or a comment.
(Or so I try to remind myself after year long gaps in my LJ when I need to kick myself into writing again.)
I think you should have that photo of you as a kid with your crazy cool sunglasses be your blog portrait. Or find the bumble bee swimsuit photograph of you as a toddler. Oh, that picture kills me, Sa. Please put it on your blog for the world to see. It for sure will help someone's terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day turn into the happiest day of their life! Spread some cheer.
Yay for you! My blog turned 1 last month, too. I think you should add "Oklahoma, OK!" on your best of list. I liked that one.
(I think I just really like the picture of all of you kiddos on that Oklahoma post. Hmm, maybe you should add more pictures of you guys as kids.)
Happy Birthday Busy Nothings! I love your blog Sara! Your blog was the first one I ever read and I get excited everytime I see you have written another post. You are an excellent writer and you post your opinions in a way that is fun and interesting to read.
Thanks to everyone for your comments on this post -- especially Blake and Lindsey!
Wow, in the Polyniesian culture the 1 year birthday is the biggest birthday because so many babies die in their first year. They invite the whole community to help celebrate the baby's accomplishment of surviving.I think that that is the same in the blogger culture!! Celebrate Big Sa!!!
Oh yeah 1 more thing:
You did start the trend Sa. Many people are blogging now because of you! I can think of 7 off the top of my head right now!
Ya! SA! I also indulge in your blog occasionally and aftr a year of asking "what is a blog? and what does it stand for?" I decided to try because of you and thought it fantastic your two most recent job offers were mainly decided because of your writing and editing abilities on your blog. TERRIFIC! About that picture of you in a bumble bee suit, I think you should add it too. hahahahahhahahahah mom snow
